At the end of our afternoon tour in north Dominica, we stopped to call in at some of Charles' friends at a bar in Calibishie. There we found ourselves face to face with a portrait of Elizabeth "Pampo" Israel, who had died the previous year. A legend on Dominica, she was arguably the oldest documented human ever, having reached the grand old age of 128. We spent a fun hour playing dominoes though I lost consecutive hands, which prompted the memorable phrase: "He and daddy in love", i.e. both I and the barlady's father had as yet failed to score. I finally had a spot of beginner's luck though, so that I didn't walk away from the game "in love"...
