At Anse du Mai, on the north coast, we stopped to have a look along the shoreline of the bay. We didn't find any Amerindian remains, but ran into an interesting example of a local fishing community. The boats were pulled up on the beach underneath the trees, fishing nets and weights were spread out on the pier and the fishermen themselves were having a beer in their local.

We got chatting to this kindly fellow, who insisted on taking us to his house to show us his old jar. It was certainly old, but not Amerindian. He was also proud of his wheel, which must formerly have functioned in some sort of press or grinding equipment. His garden was beautiful; he cultivated all sorts of fruit and vegetables and was fond of colourful flowers as well. A lovely encounter!
